Comayagua Week 12

Wow that was so great to get to talk to the fam. So good to see everyone's faces and to see my future nephew also.

This week was crazy, as you know, we had to finalize the wedding papers, and we both paid 800 limps (so yeah for today I pulled out 600 limps), we also found out that Elder Bingham is leaving so we are going to teguc tomorrow, and I will get a new companion. Every one thinks that I will get someone who is leaving the next change, and then I will train. Who knows, it will be interesting if i get a latino comp too. We will have to see next week to see what happens.

But yeah on Tuesday we went all over town to get all of the papers, and we tried to visit this one girl whose boyfriend is a member, but they haven't answered their phone and they are never home.. So it looks like that fecha will fall. But yeah familia hernandez are so great, I hope they continue to be so positive as their baptismal date approaches.

On miercoles we visited a member who works at fedEx, and her brother was there, and the guy kept reading stuff out of Apocaplipsis (revelations), but he did seem interested in that we have a living prophet on the earth today.

Thursday we had our ingles class, and the two nieces of a member, we set up an appointment next week, so and they seem pretty positive too. Friday we finished up the wedding papers and we had district meeting, and it was really cool to hear our DL testimony on the mission, as he is going home this week.

On saturday elder bingham skyped, and then there was a ward party for mothers day. Familia hernandez came! But the problem was that everyone was told it started at 6, but food wasn't served nor the program began until 8. It was a little frustrating, but once the food was served everyone was happy, including our investigators, which was good.

On sunday like no one came to church, it was kinda sad. But this week I really want to focus on visiting as much menos activos and miembros this week to explain the importance of taking the sacrament weekly. And then we skyped!

That was so great to see y'all, I'm glad you are all doing so well. It did make me a wee bit homesick, but it also gave me more energy to work harder out here in the mission field. I am pumped for this next week, we will have to see who my new companion is. Thank you all for your examples and prayers! This work truly is the work of The Lord!

Comayagua Week 11

Solid week, Tuesday we visited Familia Leon, they are so fun! They are still waiting on a divorce, so who knows when they can get baptized, but they're practically members now, they go to all church functions and the two kids go to institute. It was a super fun night as we ate dinner with them, we were just joking and having a good time, and my Spanish just felt real natural and it was a hoot.

On Wednesday we ate at this one member´s house, and we ate some mangoes (i guess this is the time of year where mangoes are ripe) I love mangoes. Oh yeah and elder bingham was eating his mango, and he almost dropped it but he caught it but then it landed on his shirt,, so he had this HUGE orange mango stain on his shirt i was laughing so hard haha.

On Thursday we had our usual free English class, and this member has brought his two nieces for like a month now, and one of the nieces finally asked about the church, and the hermano solomon talked about everything! and we gave them a book of mormon, so we will have to see if they like it. Now i am starting to see the fruits of having english class every week.

Friday we had zone meeting, it was really good, and then we went to pizza hut. On Saturday, we helped out some members with are yard sale thingy, because there is a kid with leukemia who doesn't have enough money for treatments. It was cool to help out and then after we went with tayron to this family hernandez, we found the guy, who is a taxi driver, and they seemed pretty positive. On Sunday we got them to come to church! They are super positive, and they sure loved church. Today we went over to figure out how to plan the wedding for them, and they are super excited! This family has been super prepared for us, and they are so ready. It is really cool to see how the Lord has prepared them to this point. My prayer is that we can get the marriage done in a timely manner (we pretty much have to pay for it all), but we still haven't taught them palabra de sabiduria yet. but we put a fecha for the 23rd of this month, and we are planning to do the wedding and the baptism on the same day, hopefully everything works out.

That was pretty much my week! It was really cool to meet this chosen family, and i look forward to this week, as well as preparing others for this month. It will be weird because elder bingham is probably going to leave next change (next week), and I will find out today or tomorrow if i train or not.  I cannot wait to talk to yall on mothers day!!! Make sure to have questions to ask me, because i dont want any lulls in the conversation, ya know?  haha it will be good to see yall.

Thank you for all your prayers in my behalf! This truly is the Lord´s work!

Love, Elder Wagner

Comayagua Week 10

This week went by so fast!!  On Tuesday we had a bunch of time to contact, so Elder Bingham got his dice and we did 'dice contacting'!  We would roll the dice and the number would tell us to go forward, backward, left or right and either me or Bingham would contact the nearest person. haha.  It was super fun and we actually found some nueves investigadores.

On Wednesday, we went to Tegucigalpa for my 2nd reunion de nuevos.  It was fun again to see all the CCM homies.  We got back pretty late, so we didn't do much I believe after.

On Thursday I had intercambios with Elder Long!!  He is our zone leader, and he came to our area, so basically I had all of the responsibility which was cool.  Plus I was proud of myself for knowing how to get everywhere and in teaching and talking with all our investigators.  Elder Long is pretty baggy, but he is hilarious! He is from Chicago and he played baseball for Air Force.  I learned a crapton from him.  He is a solid missionary.  The guy has been a pueblo missionary, and he kept saying that our apartment is the best he has ever seen. haha.  I learned a lot and I learned that my Spanish is better than I thought it was, which was a confidence booster.

Friday we went to Burger King and then Wendy's for dinner.  The goal for the missionaries this week was to have 10 investigators in church, so we really, really focused on getting as much people to church.  We only had six, but we did put 2 fechas with them!  One is a guy who is a menos activo, and his girlfriend who just had a baby is not a member.  But they came to church! The hard thing is that we will have to marry them.

Oh and on Saturday, Bishop here went to Utah for a conference, and he got some money to start this project for the church.  He bought a piece of land and he is building two houses, and he plans on making a farm place for members to work and live there.  So we had to clear this field where they are going to plant corn and beans.  Plus there was a bunch of really good mango trees! I loved those mangos!  The usual mangos here are nasty green ones but the trees on this little farm had delicious nectar mangos-- the mango I know from the states!  It was so gooooood!

Yep, that was my week!  Mother's Day is approaching, and we will see what happens this cambio right after Mother's Day.  I really love Comayagua.  The members here are so cool and some have really powerful testimonies, and their faith is incredible.

Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers!  It was a great week!  The field is ripe and ready to harvest.  Continue to read your scriptures every day- especially the Book of Mormon, along with daily prayer and listening to a conference talk!

Love,
Elder Wagner

Comayagua Week 9

Rise and Shout the Cougars are....  in Comayagua?

Hey guys!

Another week in the books! This week was pretty interesting, starting with us going to this little town called le jamani, which was about 30 minutes in bus away from comayagua. The guy we went to teach is william, he just had a baby with a menos activo girl, and they want to get married! We are going to try to put a fecha with william, he is pretty positive, its just that they live so far from the capilla.

This week we did a huge focus on finding nuevas personas para ensenar. Hence, we did a crapton of walking and contacting, we think we might have found some good people, but none of them came to church, so we cant put fechas with those people.

On wednesday, we found a guy in the parque with a byu hat! We got pics with him, but he had no idea what his hat meant (its pretty common here there are so many people who wear american shirts and stuff haha, oh  yeah our investigator miguel wore his I dont give a rat's donkey shirt! haha i got a pic with him too)

On Friday we went to this burger place called krifis, it was SO good! Except is was way expensive haha. and elder bingham completed 6 meses en la mision, and every night we always pass this mariachi band in the street, and bingham decided that he was going to pay for a song! haha it was so cool! it wwas only 50 limps. I';ll try to send the video haha.

On saturday we were walking and this one drunk guy walked up and hugged elder bingham and kissed him right on the neck! Then he went for me, and I couldnt avoid him! haha, it was really gross, he got me right on the neck too. I immediately put on hand sanitizer all over my neck haha, we were laughing so hard at the ridiculousness of what had just happened.

On sunday, we watched meet the mormons, after church as a ward, haha and our ward mission leader was in the movie! haha, i think all the members liked it, it was the 3rd time I had seen it so I might have fallen asleep for a bit haha.

It was a good week! Everyone sounds so good! Continue doing your daily scripture study and daily prayer, in addition to listening to a conference talk a day! You will have power over the deceiver!

Im not having much problems with beans much anymore, I kinda am starting to like them. The member who would do our laundry machine broke, so we've had to wash clothes by hand. so, that kind of sucks ahah.

Other than that, I am doing great! I can't believe it is already the middle of april! Time seriously flies by so fast here when youré working hard. Thanks for all of your prayers!

Love Elder Wagner

Comayagua Week 8

This week flew by! Wow! Let's start with Tuesday, we went to teguc for Bingham's doctor appointment, which was with the mission doctor in the mission office. Downtown teguc is crazy! There are huge buildings and a bunch of rich people. And the mission office is real nice, and so was the doctor (he spoke really good english), and now Elder Bingham just has to do exercises every night and morning (he has snapping hip syndrome). And then we ate at McDonalds, which was really cool haha. It was weird because technically the whole time we were in teguc we were outside of our mission.

So on Wednesday our fecha with dilsia fell, because we found out she has been living with someone for 6 months! and we taught her law of chastity, and her what her options were (to either get married or to leave him), and now we haven't seen her or been able to talk to her...

On Thursday we deep cleaned our apartment because there was a chance president was going to visit and check since we had interviews the next day on Friday. Interviews were good, I am pretty proud of my ability to talk in Spanish now. Yeah so it was kind of a slow week, but new people came to church! We definitely have some good prospects this week to put some baptismal fechas esta semana.

Funny- We decided to talk to this drunk guy, and he kept asking if we were amish or menonita... And then he kept asking me to sing a song for him because he was SURE that I was Justin Bieber, hahahaha.

My belt, which was Grandpa Shaffer's, is now at the notch where Grandpa Shaffer would use! haha yeah my pants are pretty loose, this week I am going to try to eat more (I splurged and bought a huge bag of krusteaz pancake mix, its pretty sweet)

It is still great to hear y'alls stories about general conference still, remember: a talk a day keeps satan away! (even though we still have to wait for the May ensign to read the talks again), may we all continue to read and listen to the talks, as well as the scriptures daily, and we will be able to resist temptation, be spiritually strengthened, and we will receive revelation on how we can improve our lives.

I love you all! Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers! Keep up the good work everyone!

Love , Elder Wagner

p.s. I kinda like beans now... I like breaking up the queso and putting it in my beans, so thats cool haha

elder bingham's mom sent me a shirt! and him of course. haha its funny because elder bningham LOVES Coke, and a mission rule is that we can't drink coke or pepsi or anything with caffeine, he is hoping that changes with the new president haha

Comayagua: Week 6 hospital, segundo bautismo, y conferencia general!

First of all, don't worry about the hospital part, on Tuesday we had to go because Elder Bingham's hip and knee were hurting really bad. But the hospital was awesome! it felt like america haha, it was all AC and all of the doctors could speak English. But yeah, apparently Bingham has been going without his ACL for quite a while now in his knee. He got a shot in his hip, and we were commanded to be on 4 days rest, which low-key kind of sucked.

Although I did get to study a lot! Including this, which is D & C 21:5, which talks about how the saints should regard the prophets words as if they were coming from Christ himself. And this next week, we will get to hear from the prophets and apostles!!! I am so pumped! And I know that the words they will say are truly inspired, and that we should abide by everything we hear and feel, especially on the promptings we feel from the Holy Ghost.

But yeah, it was kind of a slow week, and the only way we could get around is paying for a taxi, so we could only get to a couple of investigators a day. (taxis are like 50 limps for a ride. its not a lot, but it adds up haha).

But yes, we got the opportunity to baptize Jerson, a 12 year old from that family in that picture last week! He and his little brother are like foster kids, and we called his mom who is in the states, and we got permission to baptize him. Jerson is actually really smart, and it was really fun to teach him and answer his questions (he really liked to ask us a bunch of questions). But yeah the baptisms were great, the hermanas' investigators wanted me to baptize them so I am dressed to baptize too.

Also, Maribel is looking like a good convert, she has started to hang out with the adultos solteros, and I think she is making friends, which is good.

I am really thankful for the opportunity to study the scriptures a lot this week, I finished the Book of Mormon again! and I am in 2 nefi in el LdM (2 Nephi in El Libro de Mormon-- the Spanish Book of Mormon). My patience was tried this week, but yesterday was good. Bingham's hip was all good, so we had a full proselyting day yesterday.

And a member got us pizza for dinner! I love pizza!

My Spanish is really coming along, I can talk and kind of make jokes with the members haha, but I really can understand what is going on, and I am so grateful for that.

Thanks for all of your prayers and thoughts!
Love, Elder Wagner

p.s. oh and this week is Semana Santa, so that will be interesting, yesterday there was a parade for palm Sunday, so like no one came to church. Yeah and church this week was not so swell, only 122 came, usually we have like 150. Although we did get 5 investigators to come as we do our roundup in the morning. It is crazy to see the excuses people make up though.

p.s.s.  I forgot!!! I GOT THE PACKAGE ON FRIDAY! it was such a boost! I loved the fruit snacks! And I am saving the oreos and jelly beans so I can splurge on Easter haha :)

Jerson's baptism!

Comayagua Week 5: ¡Primer Bautismo!

Whats up family and friends! This was a pretty crazy week, it straight up flew by. So on Wednesday I had intercambios, so I went to a little town called Flores, which is about 30 minutes away in bus. There, its only a branch, and they have zero dinner appointments with members, and so I am just super grateful to be in Comayagua with all of the members, and that i have enough money to buy cereal haha. But yeah, I was with Elder Piccon, from Nicaragua, he is almost done with his mission. I think I learned a lot of Spanish, plus I became way more confident in my spanish because i could have a conversation with elder piccon. I still have a ways to go though.

So yeah, Friday we had the baptism of Maribel! I got to baptize her! It was really cool, but the sad thing is that her sister suyapa completely avoided us this past week, and Maribel told us that suyapa doesn't want to get baptized anymore. Basically the whole family of maribel is extremely Evangelico, and they are pretty set in their ways, which was sad and hard for Maribel. but I think maribel will be a great convert, she is already at 1 nefi (Nephi) 15, and she reads every day, which is great, and she already has friends at church.

Another cool thing, there is this really cool part member family that we have been teaching, and we are baptizing their 12 year old kid this Saturday. the mom and dad are waiting on a divorce from the dads previous marriage (they are from previous elders, this divorce has been taking forever) and we have been teaching the mom's cousin Wendy, and she wants to get baptized! But, she is a maestra at the Cosecha church, so her husband doesn't want anything to do with us, nor do her friends at the other church. We will have to see with her. I will attach a picture of the family that we had celebrated the birthday party of the little 3 year old named angel. it was super fun!

Crazy: We just left our apartment one day and we met this crazy american selling peanuts! We were like, what are you doing in Honduras? And then he went on about how 2015 is a big year, and how Russia and the us are going to have WW3, and that america will be destroyed. haha and we keep seeing him on the streets selling peanuts, haha he is crazy.

Happy early birthday to Andrea!! The mormal pics you look great! wow! That will be great if you can get your valley time soon, so then you don't have to worry about it for the rest of the season.

And happy early birthday to you, mom! I hope the del rio kids aren't driving you nuts! Enjoy pink champagne cake for me!

Food: We went to pizza hut this week! and burger king! I love comayagua!

General Conference! Lets go!

The church is true everyone!

Comayagua, Week 4

What a weeek!

On like Tuesday, we went to tegucigalpa to have the nuevos evaluacion. It was really fun to see all my buddies from the CCM, and their crazy stories and how some don't have running water. haha, I guess I have it pretty good here in comayagua, with running water and a normal hot shower. And we have a member do our laundry for us.

Anyways, this week we focused on finding more people to teach, which basically meant a crap-ton of contacting and walking. Our favorite method is to ask if people knew a Jose who lived around there, then it is pretty easy to talk from there. In fact, we used that method and this old lady named Lourdes really liked us, and she loved the 1st lesson! unfortunately she went up to teguc on Sunday, but we will see this week if we could put a fecha with her. Also, one day we were contacting for a couple of hours, so we decided to take a break and get some paletas. Anyways, we were eating them, and a guy passes by on his bike elderes! Usually people just call us hermaanos, so when they call us elderes you know they know the church. Any-whoo, he stopped and we talked with him and apparently he was taking the lessons 3 years ago but then the elders transferred. He came to church, and he seems pretty positive about wanting to change his life and stop drinking beer and stuff. We will see with him this week, and hopefully we can talk to his family.

So this Saturday we will have our baptisms for Maribel y Suyapa! Maribel is really strong, I think she will be a great member, she loves church. So yeah, that's exciting, and we found her whole family and we are starting to teach them to. Referencias are so much better and easier than street contacts, we are so grateful for fma hernandez.

Apparently a guy came to comayagua with Ebola or something, so everyone was freaking out and our ZLs put us on lockdown, and told us to board our windows. They all thought ebola was airborne! haha, so me and elder bingham put an end to that haha, so all is well.

Holy crap menudo. We had the hot soup and I was sweating like crazy, and there are just four huge chunks of the cow intestine. I went for the chunks first, and I was chewing them forever!! They aren't bad, they just are so dang chewy! So it took me like an hour to finish my soup haha.

Still have diarrhea. Apparently Elder Bingham still has diarrhea too. I have just accepted that I wont have a solid poop ever again. haha.

Thanks for all of your prayers! The field is white and ready to harvest here in Comayagua! We need more missionaries!

It was good to hear from everyone

Love,
Elder Wagner

P.S. Oh! so our bishop here served in Ventura, CA! and he served in Bakersfield for 6 months! I think he was in the east stake it sound like. He was there when it snowed! anyways, that was cool haha

Comayagua, Week 3

What's up guys? It was great to read everyone's emails this week.

So, we kind of had an interesting week. Wednesday we ate lunch at a members house and then my stomach hurt so bad for the rest of the day, and then we had our appointment with Maribel y Suyapa, and I HAD to use their toilet, and I absolutely destroyed it hahahah. I kept thinking of the Sponge-bob episode where Patrick destroyed squidwards toilet hahah. And then, I threw up. and after the lesson haha I kept throwing up in the street, so we called it a day and took a taxi back.

The next day was zone conference with Presidente, and it was really good! I was still pretty weak, but we were only sitting down. I actually understood most of everything! So yeah, my Spanish really has improved, I actually know what is going on in our lessons usually, which is pretty nice.

So cool story, we got this reference from the zone leaders who had contacted this pablo in the street, and he was really positive, and he lived in our area. So, we went and looked for a pablo argeta in barrio milagro by the kinder (that's where the zone leaders said he lived) and we asked everyone!! But, no one knew him. so, after about an hour and a half, we gave up and started leaving barrio milagro, but I said a mini prayer in my head ´to just help us find this pablo eventually`´. All of the sudden, a family on a porch started hailing us to come over, and their little kids ran and lead us to the house! We taught the first lesson, and they were so positive!! They accepted baptism too! However, they didn't make it to church, which was kind of a bummer.

And the Saturday before church we did a huge trip to like every menos activo (;ess active) we knew to try to get them to church, because it was ward conference. A bunch actually came, and we had 169 people at church! It was awesome and packed! Hopefully we can keep the asistenccia up in the following weeks because they were worried we might turn into a rama (branch). The biggest challenge we have here as missionaries is getting people to come to church.

Anyways, yeah! I had a good week! So it looks like for sure for sure we will baptize maribel, and suyapa, and maybe their sobrina, braisly on the 21st. This Saturday we are supposed to baptize adan, but he has only come out church once, and he has been avoiding us.

Food: Yeah every Friday after district meeting we go to Wendy's. It is amazing. And the beans have become tolerable. When I first got here it took me forever to chew and swallow a mouthful of beans, but now I've learned how to swallow really quick so that's good, thanks for all of your prayers in that regard. but hey, I get to eat a bowl of cold cereal every morning, maybe lunch sometimes, so I'm pretty happy.

Mom: in thinking about food for my package, I have been rationing my goldfish and my gummy bears that I got from Christmas, those keep me sane. so if you could send me stuff like that. and yeah twinkies are always good haha.

It was a good week! It is good to hear from yall! The church is true!

Love,
Elder Wagner

Comayagua, Week 2

What's up guys!

Holy crap I have so much to talk about but so little thyme. First, mom, thanks for the glasses kit, the screwdriver thingy is a lifesaver. And the handkerchiefs. It gets so dang hot here.

So that video was with Tayron, and Eduardo who was taking the video. We did a 2 hour hike up to Las Anonas, where there is a little town with about 20 members, but there is not enough to have a chapel built up there, so it is really hard for them to get to church because it is a 2 hour hike. Anyways, Eduardo and Tayron are RMs, they are so cool and funny haha, and they know a little English, which is fun. Mom: add Eduardo on facebook, I think he friended me haha.

So the week started out pretty crushing because Mayra really did not want to get married at all, so she cannot get baptized, so our fecha (date) with her fell. Her son, Adan, didn't have any problems with the palabra de sabiduria, which was great! because usually people here drink coffee because it is so cheap.

Other than that, we didn't have much success, until we visited a recent convert named Hermana Hernandez, and she owns a little restaurant. 3 girls work for her, and so hermanana Hernandez told them to sit down for a 20 minute leccion (lesson), and so we taught them the restoration. At first it was super awkward, and they didn't talk at all. But then, the Spirit came when i recited the 1st vision, and they got really interested and started asking questions. It was great! They accepted the challenge to baptism, and Sunday we put a fecha with them for the 21st, because they went to church! So we will be working with them. Referrals are so important, and all the missionaries here say that most of their baptisms come from referrals, not from contacts. So we are super grateful for Hermana Hernandez and her conviction in the Gospel.

Food: fasting was crazy hard because we sweat so much holy crap haha. but it was good. oh and the other day we ate at this members house and she made us soup, and it was so hot and it was so hot outside! I was literally sweating drops into my soup hahaha.

Oh and there is a Wendy's right down the street from our apartment! We eat there every Friday after district meeting. It is sooo good.

Also: I have had diarrhea ever since the second day I got here. so there's that. But it does not impede the work of the Lord!

Thanks for all of your prayers and emails,

Love,
Elder Wagner

Comayagua, Honduras

What is up family!!!

Honduras is crazy!! I am in the city of Comayagua with my comp, Elder Bingham, who is from Salt Lake City. He just got done being trained, and now he is training me.

Wow! The trip was crazy! I slept on the plane ride here, and landing in Tegucigalpa was nuts. Mission presiedent picked us up and then we had orientation for a few hours, and then we took pics, and then me and elder bingham went to catch a bus to Comayagua, which was a about two hours and half from Teguz. There are pine trees here!! but then I fell asleep, and then we got to our apartment and we unpacked. It is so dang hot here haha.

So we have the west side of Comayagua, and we share it with two hermanas, (one is actually from Bakersfield!! she went to Mira Monte) so it is pretty safe here in Comaygaua, and the hermanas just can't go certain places at night. So,on Wednesday, we went and visited a bunch of members and menos activos, and I have no idea what the crap they are saying, they speak so fasst cool thing,we visited a reference, and I challenged her and the son to baptism!! She accepted! But... she is not married to her husband, so we have to pay for a marriage for Mayra y Adan. We are trying to figure out how to do a marriage.

We also did some contacting in the Zarcitas, which is a poor side  of Comayagua, it was crazy, all those people straight up have dirt floors. The next day, which was Friday, we visited Mayra, and she asked for a blessing on the house, because she was telling us stories about evil spirits or something, so Bingham gave a prayer, which I think made them fell better.

There were two more elders here in Comayagua, but they left, so we are picking up on their old investigators, so we visited this lady Lourdes, who is pregnant. We were teaching outside, and I gave her a Book of Mormon, and she seemed really interested and stuff, but then her husband walked up and he told us he didn't want us teaching her, which is sad.

Sunday was really interesting, but sadly only two of our investigators came, and they all need 3 church visits before they can be baptized. The field esta ya para la siega, aqui, and we walk and walk all day, so I instantly fall asleep when I sit down for longer than 20 minutes haha.

Some areas there are so many dogs!!! I took Elder Harding's advice, and they are super scared of rocks, but there are so many! One came up to me and bit me on the leg, but it wasn't that bad, it didn't break skin. But yeah, dogs. I hate them. And there are so many cats too!

Food: the food is great, but I sure hate beans. They have these things called balleadas, Holy crap those are good. But yeah we have dinner appointments every night, and we pretty much just get tortillas, rice beans and eggs, and maybe chicken if they've got money.

Weather: Hot. I sweat ALL of the time, but it is a blessing because I never go to the bathrooom during the day, so that is nice. And I guess the hot months are coming up. Luckily we have a fan in our room at night, but I still sweat so much haha. Oh yeah our apartment has hot water so that's cool

I only have 40 minutes to write, so next week I'll go into detail more on our investigators. The people here are awesome! I'm understanding a lot more now than a week ago, and I can teach in the lessons, and I am getting better at conversations.

The church is true! I love y'all, and I am doing great here!

Love,
Elder Wagner
